Celebrating KC Current's New Stadium and Female Artists + Entrepreneurs

Kansas City is home to a thriving community of female entrepreneurs!

Call it our Teal Era: we’re celebrating the opening of the first female soccer stadium IN THE WORLD. It’s also the perfect time (tbh when is it not?) to shine a spotlight on the local female artists and entrepreneurs who are making waves in our community, and highlighting the exciting soccer season at the world-class CPKC Stadium.

Kansas City is home to a thriving community of female entrepreneurs who are breaking barriers and making a difference and we think that deserves a CELLY or two! These women are a testament to the resilience, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of our city.

And in case you don’t have these businesses already on your radar, we thought we’d get you CURRENT on the epic local landscape by playing a little “which KC Celly are you?”

Business: The Laya Center

Celly:  The Classic Lo'eau Labonta Limp to Twerk

You may go into this holistic Afrivedic center with a bit of limp, but the comprehensive wellness experience curated by LaToyia Mays and her team will have you moving smoother, stronger, and stress-free on your way out. Their focus on full-picture wellness is evident from their wellness practices, spa treatments, on-site tea bar, and involvement in their communities.

Business: Ampersand Studio

Celly: Hand Heart at the Crowd

Our long-time pals opened their first-ever brick and mortar in the already adorable Waldo neighborhood. And what are statement wall art, colorful home decor, and cute greeting cards if not the 'hand hearts' of everyday life.

Business: Jessica Nguyen

Celly: Group Hug feat. Jump

If the KC small business community is a group hug of innovation, creativity, and hometown inspiration, Jessica Nguyen is the Lobanta Leap that turns that collective into a full fledged celebration. Her bold and bright graphic style full of intricate detail and powerful storytelling can be found building up KC-based businesses all over town like Cafe ca Phe where she works as the lead graphic designer.

A scroll through our artist highlights and maker profile will show you amazing women who are making their mark and inspiring us all. Jessica Nguyen has made a name for herself with bold, bright graphics filled with immense detail and storytelling. Her work can be found championing other KC-based businesses all over town.

Business: EB & Co.

Celly: 180 spin plus cool X hand thing. (sorry we do not know its official name)

A heavyhitter in her own right, Bia’s celly reminds us of heavyhitter EB!!

EB & Co., an accessory boutique founded by Emily Bordner and has been making our city that much more stylish with their wide array of accessories for the modern gal. (You may recognize their work from the recent Chiefs season 😏)

Business: Cafe Ca Phe and Ashley Bare

Celly: The Slide

Sliding into the food scene like…

(We put two businesses here, not because we couldn’t pick one, but because we refuse to pit women against each other.*)

*Also because we couldn’t pick one.

Ashley Bare’s Hemma Hemma has brought cozy straight to Waldo with sandwiches, pastries, coffee, and more! But most specifically hot breakfast items that will send you to your knees (but with less grass-burn, probably).

Rounding out this badass female-owned business roster is Cafe Cà Phê, the first Vietnamese coffee shop in Kansas City. Jackie Nguyen’s coffee truck-turned-neighborhood-cafe has changed the way our city looks at coffee and community. Lucky for you, their iconic coffee drinks can be found in Columbus Park (the OG) and in the West Bottoms, housed inside the artistic and inclusive 12th Street Post.

From our cafes and accessories to our wellness centers and soccer stadiums, Kansas City is a city of, by, and for strong and confident women. Make sure you’re keepin’ it teal with KC Current shirts, socks, and more to support your team on match day, and hitting up these incredible female businesses to support the women of Kansas City on.. well.. every day!  That’s her KC Baby!

Even more lucky for us, Kansas City is also home to the first stadium in the world built for a women's professional soccer team - the CPKC Stadium. It’s never a bad time to turn the town teal with us!! Show up match day ready with KC Current shirts, socks, and more!

As we celebrate the amazing women of Kansas City, let's continue to support our local female talent and businesses. After all, when you support women-owned businesses, you're supporting your community.
